Several Herman Miller systems circulate in the secondary market. Availability shifts with what comes out of corporate liquidations, so treat this as a map, not an inventory list.
Action Office
A long-running panel system that was widely installed in corporate offices. Because it was in production for so long, parts and panels are often easier to find, which makes it a solid choice for expanding or repairing an existing layout.
Ethospace
A frame-and-tile system. Tiles can be swapped, for example fabric, glass or markerboard, so you can change the look and privacy of a station without replacing the frame. It tends to read as more architectural than a basic panel system.
Canvas and other newer systems
Newer Herman Miller workstation families lean toward lower, more open benching and desk-based layouts. These suit teams that want collaboration and daylight over high privacy walls.

Which tier fits your project?
- Choose liquidation-grade when speed and budget lead, the space is not client-facing, or you are expanding with a quick-turn team.
- Choose remanufactured when you want used economics but a cohesive, refreshed look across the floor.
- Choose new when you need a specific current finish or configuration and can wait 4 to 6 weeks.
Condition grades apply within the pre-owned tiers: A, like new; B, very good; and C, good.
Checklist before you commit
- Measure the space, including column locations, door swings and aisle widths.
- Choose panel heights by team: lower for collaboration, taller for focus or phone-heavy roles.
- Confirm worksurface sizes and whether each station includes storage.
- Identify which power components are included and book a licensed electrician early.
- Match fabric and finish across the full quantity, or plan zones intentionally.
- Order a few spare connectors and panels for future changes.
- Coordinate building access, freight elevator and dock times for delivery day.
- Remember that manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned furniture.

Reconfiguring a used system for your floor
The layout a system came out of rarely matches the space it is going into. That is normal. A pre-owned cluster of eight 8'x8' stations can often be rebuilt as a larger number of smaller stations, or opened up into lower-panel pods, as long as the right connectors and worksurfaces are available.
The practical limits are parts, not panels. Corner and three-way connectors, finished end panels and matching worksurfaces run out before straight panels do. Share your floor plan early so the plan is built around parts that actually exist, rather than a drawing that stalls on install day.
