Used Herman Miller Office Furniture

Herman Miller furniture is built for long service lives, which is exactly why it holds up so well the second time around. Here is how to buy it pre-owned with clear eyes, from an independent reseller that tells you what you are and are not getting.

Designer office furniture

Herman Miller furniture is designed for decades of daily use. Chairs are rebuilt around replaceable parts, and panel systems are engineered to be taken down and reconfigured. That longevity is what makes the used market worth your attention. A well-kept pre-owned piece often delivers most of the function of new at a fraction of the price.

The catch is that "used Herman Miller" covers everything from a nearly untouched chair to a worn panel system pulled from a 20-year-old call center. This hub explains how to tell the difference, what pricing tiers look like, and where the warranty question really lands.

What buying from an independent reseller means

Office Station sells pre-owned designer furniture as an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer. We are not affiliated with Herman Miller. You get pieces sourced from corporate office liquidations and decommissioning projects, not product shipped from the factory.

That has real advantages. Pricing is far below new, lead times are shorter, and you keep good furniture out of the landfill. It also has limits you should understand before you buy:

  • Manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned buyers.
  • Availability depends on what comes out of real offices, so exact finishes and quantities vary.
  • Older generations of a product line may differ from what is sold new today.

Herman Miller product families you will find used

Most of the pre-owned Herman Miller market falls into a few groups. Each has its own guide with specifics on what to check.

Task chairs

The Aeron is the chair most buyers ask for by name. It comes in three body sizes and several generations, so a used Aeron purchase starts with fit. See our used Herman Miller Aeron guide for sizing and inspection points. For a broader look at seating across brands, visit pre-owned office chairs.

Stacking and multipurpose chairs

Training rooms, cafes and flexible meeting spaces need chairs by the dozen, and they need them to match. Our used Caper chairs page covers buying stackers and multipurpose chairs in volume.

Workstations and panel systems

Herman Miller panel systems are among the most common cubicles on the secondary market. Because components are modular, a used system can be reconfigured into a new footprint. The used Herman Miller cubicles hub walks through the lines and tier pricing.

How pricing tiers compare

Pre-owned furniture comes in two main tiers, and it helps to compare them against new. Using a 6'x6' workstation as a benchmark, furniture-only pricing looks like this:

Tier6'x6' workstation (furniture only)Typical lead timeBest for
Liquidation-grade$615As little as 72 hours in stockFast move-ins, tight budgets, overflow space
Remanufactured$1,245Usually 7 to 14 daysA refreshed look with new fabric or surfaces
New$1,9204 to 6 weeksExact current finishes and specs

Average market rate Prices subject to availability and project pricing.

Prices exclude electrical, delivery and professional installation. Installation runs $95 per workstation with a $495 minimum. Greater Phoenix delivery is $195 central or $295 metro, and freight elsewhere in the country is quoted per project. Volume pricing takes 5% off at 20 or more stations, 8% at 50 or more, and 12% at 100 or more. Space planning is free.

Reading condition grades

Every pre-owned piece we sell carries a condition grade so you can compare options without guessing.

  • Grade A, like new: little or no visible wear. A good fit for client-facing areas and executive offices.
  • Grade B, very good: light cosmetic signs of use, fully functional. The sweet spot for most open-plan offices.
  • Grade C, good: more noticeable wear, still fully functional. Practical for back offices, storage-heavy areas and budget builds.

A grade speaks to condition, not to model, age or configuration. Two Grade B chairs can be different generations with different adjustments, so read the full description too.

A quick checklist before you buy

  1. Confirm the exact product line and generation, not just the brand name.
  2. Ask for the condition grade on every line item.
  3. For chairs, verify size and which adjustments are included.
  4. For workstations, confirm panel heights, worksurface sizes and whether power components are part of the quote.
  5. Match finishes across the full quantity if appearance matters.
  6. Budget separately for electrical, delivery and installation.
  7. Plan without relying on a transferable manufacturer warranty.

Moving out? Your Herman Miller furniture has value

If your company is consolidating or relocating, the furniture you leave behind can offset the cost of the move. Office Station provides office furniture liquidation across the Southwest, including Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, Las Vegas, Reno, San Diego, Orange County, Northern California, Denver, Salt Lake City and Albuquerque.

We schedule a walkthrough, typically within 48 hours in Greater Phoenix and 2 to 3 business days elsewhere, and deliver a written offer within 5 business days. The net offer is the resale value of your furniture minus the cost of removal. When it is positive, you get paid. Crews work nights and weekends, provide certificates of insurance, coordinate the freight elevator and dock, and hand the space back broom-clean with photo documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Office Station an authorized Herman Miller dealer?

No. Office Station is an independent reseller of pre-owned furniture. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Herman Miller. That means we can offer lower prices on used pieces, but we cannot sell you new product through the manufacturer's dealer network.

Does the Herman Miller warranty come with used furniture?

Generally, no. Manufacturer warranties are usually written for the original purchaser and do not transfer to pre-owned buyers. Ask about the condition grade and any inspection notes before you buy, and plan your budget with that in mind.

What do the A, B and C condition grades mean?

Grade A is like new, with little or no visible wear. Grade B is very good, with light cosmetic signs of use. Grade C is good, fully functional with more noticeable wear. The grade describes appearance and condition, not the product model or size.

How fast can I get used Herman Miller furniture?

Liquidation-grade pieces that are in stock can ship in as little as 72 hours. Remanufactured product usually takes 7 to 14 days. If you need something new instead, expect roughly 4 to 6 weeks.

Can you buy our Herman Miller furniture when we move out?

Yes, in our liquidation markets across the Southwest. We walk the space, then give you a written net offer: the resale value of the furniture minus the cost to remove it. If the number is positive, we pay you.
