The appeal is simple. You get solid frames, commercial worksurfaces and a clean corporate look, and you can have it far sooner than a new order. The tradeoff is that you buy what is available, in the finish it comes in, graded honestly.

Common types of Teknion desks on the pre-owned market
Private office desks and suites
A desk, return or credenza, and often an overhead or bookcase. These suit managers, attorneys and anyone who meets visitors at their desk. Check that every piece in the suite shares the same finish, because suites sometimes get split up over the years.
Height-adjustable desks
Sit-stand tables are among the most requested pre-owned pieces. Test the full range of travel, listen for a smooth motor, and confirm any keypad or controller works. Ask whether the power cord and controller are included.
Benching and shared desks
Long runs of shared worksurfaces with a common spine. Great for open teams and hot-desking. The key check is that you get every leg, beam and connector for the run you plan.
Tables and meeting desks
Small conference and touchdown tables round out a floor. Look for flat tops and sound edge banding.

A mixed-grade order is often the smartest buy. Put Grade A in the spaces visitors see, and use Grade B or C where function matters more than looks.
Grade the parts you touch, not just the top
A worksurface can look perfect in a photo while the parts you use every day tell a different story. When you review a specific desk, look at drawer slides, lock cylinders, leveling glides and the brackets that hold a return to the main top. Loose or stripped fasteners are usually a simple fix, but you want to know about them before installation day rather than after.
For sit-stand desks, ask whether both legs rise evenly and whether the desk holds its height under a normal load. A slight wobble at full height is common on many designs, while a desk that drifts down or stalls partway is a sign to pass or ask for a different unit.
Lead times: pick the tier that fits your move date
Your timeline often decides your tier more than your budget does.
- Liquidation-grade: as little as 72 hours when the piece is in stock. Sold as graded.
- Remanufactured: usually 7 to 14 days. Cleaned and refreshed for a more consistent look.
- New: 4 to 6 weeks. The route to take if you need a specific size, finish or a warranty.
If you are opening an office in two weeks, liquidation-grade or remanufactured is realistic. If you have two months and a strict finish standard, new may be worth the wait.
