Knoll has a long reputation in workplace design, from modernist classics to the systems furniture and task seating found in corporate offices across the country. Those offices eventually move, consolidate or refresh, and well-made Knoll pieces come back onto the market with plenty of life left.
Buying used Knoll office furniture can stretch your budget considerably. It also asks more of you as a buyer, because product lines, options and conditions vary. This guide covers what we sell, how grading works, and what to check by category.
An independent reseller, clearly stated
Office Station sells pre-owned designer furniture as an independent reseller. We are not an authorized Knoll dealer. We also run corporate office liquidation and decommissioning projects, where furniture is removed and inventoried so it can be reused instead of discarded.
How we grade used Knoll furniture
Every item gets one of three condition grades. All are functional. The grade tells you how much wear you will see.
- Grade A, like new. Minimal or no visible wear.
- Grade B, very good. Light signs of use, fully functional.
- Grade C, good. Visible cosmetic wear, works as intended.
Grades are applied piece by piece. A large order can include items that share a grade but differ slightly in appearance, so ask about specifics when matching matters.
Shopping used Knoll by category
Different Knoll categories carry different risks and rewards on the pre-owned market. Use this table to focus your inspection.
| Category | Examples you may see | Why buy pre-owned | Check closely |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workstations | Panel and desking systems such as Dividends Horizon, Reff and Morrison | Largest savings per seat; durable frames and worksurfaces | Component compatibility, connectors, panel fabric, worksurface edges |
| Task chairs | Generation, ReGeneration, Life | Ergonomic seating at a fraction of new cost | Height hold, tilt function, arm pads, upholstery, casters |
| Tables | Conference, training and meeting tables | Solid construction that shows value for years | Top finish, edge banding, leg stability, power and data modules |
| Storage | Pedestals, lateral files, storage towers | Rarely wears out mechanically | Drawer slides, locks, keys, finish consistency |
Availability of any specific line changes with inventory. If you need a particular product, tell us early.
Knoll workstations: the biggest decision
Systems furniture delivers the largest savings and needs the most planning. For a 6'x6' workstation, furniture only, we offer three tiers:
- Liquidation-grade: $615. In stock in as little as 72 hours.
- Remanufactured: $1,245. Usually 7 to 14 days.
- New: $1,920. Typically 4 to 6 weeks.
Prices exclude electrical, delivery and professional installation. Space planning is free, and installation runs $95 per workstation with a $495 minimum. The dedicated Knoll cubicles page breaks these tiers down with worked examples.
Knoll chairs: test the mechanism
Knoll task chairs are a common pre-owned find. Appearance is easy to judge from a grade. Function is what you should test in person or confirm before ordering:
- Raise and lower the seat several times and confirm it holds height.
- Recline through the full range and listen for grinding.
- Test every arm adjustment and look for cracked pads.
- Inspect the back and seat for tears or loose material.
- Roll on a hard floor to check the casters and base.
Options varied when these chairs were sold new, so confirm features such as seat depth and adjustable arms on the actual chair. Browse more options among our pre-owned office chairs.
Knoll tables and storage
Tables and storage often represent the best pure value in used Knoll office furniture. There are fewer moving parts, so a Grade B or C piece may perform exactly like a new one. Focus on surfaces and hardware. For tables, check edges, leg levelers and any power modules. For storage, open every drawer, confirm locks work, and ask whether keys are included.
Adding to an existing Knoll office
Expanding a floor that already has Knoll? Matching is where pre-owned purchases most often go wrong. Before you buy, gather:
- The product line and panel or screen heights you already have
- Photos of connectors, brackets and the underside of worksurfaces
- Finish and fabric colors, with photos taken in natural light
- Electrical and data details for powered panels or desking
With that information, we can tell you honestly whether available pieces will integrate or whether a fresh set of workstations makes more sense.
