Open offices save space, but they can cost you focus. Herman Miller My Studio Environments was designed to answer that problem with a personal, enclosed workstation: tall walls, an entry and a defined interior that feels closer to a small office than a cubicle.
If your team does concentrated work and you cannot build private offices for everyone, used Herman Miller My Studio is worth serious consideration. This page covers who it suits, how to evaluate pre-owned units and how cost and timing work with Office Station.
Is a private workstation right for your team?
Enclosure is a tradeoff. You gain quiet and confidentiality, and you give up some floor space, daylight and casual conversation. Before shopping, sort your roles by how they actually spend the day.
| Work pattern | Private workstation | Standard or low-panel cubicle |
|---|---|---|
| Long stretches of deep focus | Strong fit | Often distracting |
| Frequent phone or video calls | Strong fit, less noise spill | Needs phone rooms nearby |
| Confidential documents or screens | Strong fit | Requires screen placement care |
| Constant quick team conversation | Can isolate people | Usually better |
| Tight square footage per person | Uses more floor area | More efficient |
Many offices land on a hybrid: a row of enclosed workstations for focus-heavy roles, and lower stations for teams that collaborate constantly. Our free space planning can model both on your floor plan.
How to evaluate a used My Studio unit
An enclosed workstation has more moving parts than an open desk, so inspection goes beyond surface wear. Run through these points on any lot you are considering.
- Complete enclosure. Confirm every wall section, top cap and corner piece needed to close the unit is present.
- Entry hardware. Check any door or sliding element for smooth travel, alignment and intact tracks or hinges.
- Interior components. Inventory worksurfaces, shelves, tackable or markerboard surfaces and storage, and confirm they match the unit.
- Fabric and acoustic surfaces. Look for stains, sun fading and compressed fabric, which can reduce the quiet feel.
- Power and lighting provisions. Note what is included for power and task lighting. Electrical work is outside furniture pricing.
- Footprint against your plan. Measure the unit and the clearance around it, including aisles and the swing or travel of any entry.
Condition grades we use
Office Station sells pre-owned Herman Miller furniture as an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer, and manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer. What you get from us instead is a plain-language grade on each lot:
- Grade A, like new: little or no visible wear.
- Grade B, very good: light marks from normal use.
- Grade C, good: fully functional with more noticeable cosmetic wear.
With enclosed units, a Grade B exterior with a Grade A interior is common, because the inside is protected from traffic. We will note that when it applies.
Cost and timing
Private workstations are quoted per project because the component count is higher than a typical cubicle and pre-owned lots vary. Our standard 6'x6' workstation benchmarks, furniture only, give you a floor to compare against:
- Liquidation-grade: $615, in as little as 72 hours when in stock.
- Remanufactured: $1,245, usually 7 to 14 days.
- New: $1,920, typically 4 to 6 weeks.
Expect an enclosed unit to land above those numbers. Prices exclude electrical, delivery and installation. Installation is $95 per workstation with a $495 minimum. Delivery in Greater Phoenix is $195 central or $295 metro, and freight elsewhere is quoted per project. Volume discounts start at 5% for 20 or more stations, rising to 8% at 50 and 12% at 100.

Sizing a focus floor
Enclosed workstations take up more room than open desks once you include the walls and the clearance around each entry. Before you set a quantity, work through three questions:
- Who truly needs enclosure? List roles, not people. Roles change less often than seating charts.
- What supports the rest of the team? If only some people get private workstations, others still need phone rooms or quiet zones.
- How will the aisles feel? A long corridor of tall walls can feel closed in. Breaking runs with lower stations or shared tables keeps the floor comfortable.
Our space planning is free and can show enclosed and open stations side by side, so you can see the tradeoff in real square footage before spending anything.
Tips for sourcing enclosed workstations
Pre-owned private workstations come onto the market less often and in smaller quantities than standard panels. A few habits help:
- Start early. Give yourself room to wait for the right lot instead of buying whatever is available that week.
- Be flexible on finish. Neutral fabric and surface colors widen your options considerably.
- Plan a fallback. If you need 30 units and find 18, fill the rest with high-panel stations or remanufactured product from our used cubicles inventory.
- Do not skip seating. People in enclosed stations sit for long stretches, so budget for good pre-owned office chairs.
If the move to private workstations means retiring your old furniture, we can help there too. Our office decommissioning service handles removal, itemized inventory and a photo-documented broom-clean handback.

Frequently asked questions
Who is My Studio best suited for?
It works best for people whose day is dominated by concentration, calls or confidential work, such as analysts, engineers, recruiters, finance staff and managers without private offices. Collaborative teams that talk across desks all day often do better with lower walls.
Is used My Studio easy to find?
Enclosed private workstations come onto the pre-owned market less often than standard panel cubicles, and lots tend to be smaller. Tell us your quantity and timeline early so we can look for inventory. If pre-owned supply falls short, we can price remanufactured or new alternatives.
Does a pre-owned My Studio come with a Herman Miller warranty?
Manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned furniture. Office Station is an independent reseller, not an authorized Herman Miller dealer. We give each lot a condition grade of A, B or C so you know what you are buying.
Do tall enclosed workstations need anything special for installation?
Plan for it. Tall walls affect lighting, sprinkler coverage, HVAC airflow and egress, so check with your landlord or building team before you commit. Our installation is $95 per workstation with a $495 minimum, and electrical work is priced separately.
What will a used private workstation cost?
Enclosed workstations are quoted per project because they use more components than a standard cubicle. For context, our 6'x6' standard workstation is $615 liquidation-grade, $1,245 remanufactured and $1,920 new, furniture only. Expect an enclosed unit to price above those benchmarks.
