Herman Miller Canvas is not a classic panel cubicle. It is a kit of walls, desks, storage and screens that lets you plan low, open neighborhoods with some privacy where it matters. That flexibility is exactly why used Canvas is worth a look: you can get a contemporary layout without paying for brand-new components.
This page explains how pre-owned Canvas is sourced and graded, what to check before you buy, and how pricing, delivery and installation work with Office Station.
Why teams buy used Herman Miller Canvas
Canvas tends to show up in offices that want a lighter, more residential feel than tall fabric panels. Desks attach to low walls or stand on their own, storage doubles as a divider, and screens add focus without closing people in. When a company downsizes or moves, those components often come back onto the market in good shape.
- Open sightlines. Low walls keep natural light moving across the floor.
- Mix of settings. The same family can cover individual desks, shared tables and storage walls.
- Lower cost of entry. Pre-owned sets cost less than new, and in-stock inventory ships far faster.
How we grade pre-owned Canvas
Every lot gets a condition grade so you know what you are paying for. With a system like Canvas, we grade by component group, because walls, worksurfaces and storage wear differently.
| Grade | What it means | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|
| A, like new | Little or no visible wear on surfaces, edges or fabric | Client-facing areas, executive neighborhoods |
| B, very good | Light use marks such as small edge scuffs or minor surface wear | Most general office floors |
| C, good | Fully functional with more visible cosmetic wear | Back-office, training rooms, budget-first projects |
What to check before buying used Canvas
Canvas is a system, so completeness matters as much as appearance. Use this checklist when you review a quote or walk a lot.
- Connecting hardware. Confirm the brackets, connectors and supports that join desks to walls are included. Missing hardware is the most common cause of install delays.
- Wall heights and lengths. Map the pieces to your plan. A lot of mostly short walls will not create the same privacy as taller ones.
- Worksurface edges. Look for chipped laminate or veneer on the front edge, where chairs and elbows hit.
- Power and data routing. Check whether cable management components are present. Note that electrical work is not part of furniture pricing.
- Finish consistency. Pieces from different installations can vary slightly in color. Ask whether a lot came from one site.
- Storage function. Open every drawer and door, and confirm locks and keys if you need them.
Pricing, options and lead times
Because Canvas configurations vary so widely, we quote it per project rather than list a single sticker price. To give you a real benchmark, here are our published furniture-only prices for a standard 6'x6' workstation across the three sourcing options.
| Option | 6'x6' workstation, furniture only | Typical lead time |
|---|---|---|
| Liquidation-grade | $615 | As little as 72 hours when in stock |
| Remanufactured | $1,245 | Usually 7 to 14 days |
| New | $1,920 | 4 to 6 weeks |
Average market rate Prices subject to availability and project pricing.
These prices exclude electrical, delivery and professional installation. Add-ons work like this:
- Space planning: free.
- Installation: $95 per workstation, with a $495 minimum.
- Delivery in Greater Phoenix: $195 central or $295 metro. Freight elsewhere in the country is quoted per project.
- Volume pricing: 5% off at 20 or more stations, 8% at 50 or more, 12% at 100 or more.
Planning a floor with pre-owned Canvas
The best used Canvas projects start from the plan, not the pile of parts. Send us your floor plan or a sketch with dimensions, headcount and any fixed elements like columns and power locations. Our free space planning shows how many stations the available components support and where you might need to mix in other storage or screens.
If you already own Canvas and want to expand, include photos and any labels you can find on the underside of worksurfaces. That helps us look for compatible pieces. We will be upfront when a match is uncertain.

Have Canvas to get rid of?
If your company is moving or shrinking, your existing furniture may offset the cost of removal. Office Station provides a written net offer: the resale value of the furniture minus the cost to remove it. When that number is positive, you get paid. Walkthroughs typically happen within 48 hours in Greater Phoenix and 2 to 3 business days in our other markets, with offers within 5 business days.

Frequently asked questions
Is Office Station an authorized Herman Miller dealer?
No. Office Station is an independent reseller of pre-owned furniture. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Herman Miller. Manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned furniture, so we describe each piece by our own condition grade.
What do the A, B and C condition grades mean for Canvas?
Grade A is like new, with little or no visible wear. Grade B is very good, with light signs of use such as minor scuffs on edges. Grade C is good and fully functional, with more visible cosmetic wear. We tell you the grade of each component group before you commit.
Can I add pieces to a Canvas layout I already own?
Often, yes, if matching components are available. Send us photos of your existing walls, desks and storage, plus finish and fabric details, and we will check what we can source. Exact color and finish matches are never guaranteed with pre-owned inventory.
How much does a used Canvas workstation cost?
Pricing depends on the configuration, component count and grade, so Canvas is quoted per project. As a reference point, our published 6'x6' workstation furniture-only prices are $615 liquidation-grade, $1,245 remanufactured and $1,920 new, excluding electrical, delivery and installation.
How fast can I get pre-owned Canvas furniture?
Liquidation-grade inventory that is in stock can be ready in as little as 72 hours. Remanufactured furniture usually takes 7 to 14 days. If you need new furniture instead, plan on 4 to 6 weeks.
