Pre-owned office workstations

Modular workstations are the backbone of most open offices. They are also one of the biggest line items on a build-out budget. Refurbished modular office furniture gives you a middle path: systems built by the major manufacturers, restored to a consistent standard, at a price well below new and on a timeline measured in days rather than weeks.

This page walks through what you actually get with a remanufactured workstation, how the numbers compare, and what to check before you sign off on an order.

Three tiers of modular workstations

Office Station sells 6'x6' workstations in three tiers. The furniture is similar in footprint and function. What changes is condition, consistency, lead time and price.

TierPrice per 6'x6' stationTypical lead timeBest fit
Liquidation-grade$615As little as 72 hours (in stock)Fast move-ins, overflow space, tight budgets
Remanufactured$1,245Usually 7-14 daysClient-facing floors, uniform look, moderate timelines
New$1,9204-6 weeksSpecific finishes, custom configurations

All prices are furniture only. They exclude electrical, delivery and professional installation, which you should budget separately.

Why remanufactured is often the sweet spot

A remanufactured station costs $675 less than new per 6'x6' workstation, about 35% below the new price. On a 40-station floor, that is $27,000 in furniture savings before any volume discount.

Compared with liquidation-grade, you pay $630 more per station. In return, you get a more uniform appearance across the floor, which matters when clients walk through or when you are filling a large open area where mismatched panels would stand out.

The lead time is the other lever. At 7-14 days, remanufactured furniture fits most lease-start dates that would be missed by a 4-6 week new order. If your move date is fixed and your landlord is not flexible, that gap can be the deciding factor.

Brands you will see

Pre-owned modular inventory comes from the manufacturers that dominate corporate offices. Office Station sells pre-owned furniture from Herman Miller, Steelcase, Knoll, Haworth, Humanscale, Teknion, Allsteel, Kimball, AIS and Friant.

Office Station is an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer for any of these brands. Manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned furniture, so your decision should rest on the condition of the pieces in front of you and a clear description of what was done to them.

What to check before you buy

Use this checklist when you review a quote or walk inventory in person.

  • Scope of work. Get a written description of what was replaced or refinished: fabric, worksurface laminate, edge banding, hardware, keys and locks.
  • Condition grade. Office Station grades pre-owned furniture A (like new), B (very good) or C (good). Confirm the grade applies to every component, not just the panels.
  • Panel heights and finishes. Make sure all stations in one area share the same panel height and fabric so the floor reads as one system.
  • Power and data. Confirm whether panels are powered, what the base feed is, and whether your electrician can connect to it. Electrical is not included in furniture pricing.
  • Storage and pedestals. Count pedestals, overheads and lateral files per station. Missing storage is the most common gap between a quote and a finished floor.
  • Keys. Ask for keyed-alike or master-keyed locks if security matters.
  • Future expansion. Ask whether matching components are likely to be available if you add stations later. Pre-owned inventory changes, so buy a few spare parts now if growth is likely.

Volume pricing on a real floor

Volume discounts apply at 20 or more stations (5%), 50 or more (8%) and 100 or more (12%). Here is how the furniture cost of remanufactured stations works out at a few common sizes.

Totals are rounded to the nearest dollar and exclude electrical and delivery. For a floor under six stations, the $495 installation minimum applies.

Mixing tiers on one project

You do not have to choose one tier for the whole office. A common approach is remanufactured stations on the main floor where appearance matters, and liquidation-grade stations in back-office, training or overflow areas where cost and speed matter more.

Free space planning helps you draw that line. A plan shows how many stations fit, where power needs to land and which areas can use a different tier without looking out of place.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between refurbished and remanufactured modular furniture?

The terms get used loosely across the industry. Refurbished can mean anything from a cleaning to new fabric, while remanufactured usually implies components were taken down, inspected and rebuilt with replaced wear parts and finishes. Always ask for a written description of what was done to the panels, worksurfaces and storage before you compare quotes.

How much does a remanufactured 6x6 workstation cost?

Office Station prices a remanufactured 6'x6' workstation at $1,245, furniture only. A liquidation-grade station is $615 and a new station is $1,920. Prices exclude electrical, delivery and professional installation.

How long does it take to get remanufactured workstations?

Remanufactured stations usually take 7-14 days. Liquidation-grade stations in stock can be ready in as little as 72 hours, and new furniture typically runs 4-6 weeks.

Does the manufacturer warranty come with refurbished furniture?

Generally no. Office Station is an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer, and manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned furniture. Ask about condition grades and inspect finishes, hardware and cable management before you commit.

Are there discounts for larger orders?

Yes. Volume pricing is 5% off at 20 or more stations, 8% off at 50 or more, and 12% off at 100 or more. Space planning is free, and installation is $95 per workstation with a $495 minimum.
