Pre-owned office workstations

A private office is where decisions get made, clients get met and confidential calls happen. The furniture has to look the part and work hard all day. Pre-owned private office furniture lets you put designer-quality desks, storage and seating in those rooms for well below the cost of new, without settling for something that looks tired.

Office Station sells pre-owned private office pieces with clear condition grades, plans the room for free and can deliver and install the finished suite.

What goes into a private office

Most private offices are built from the same core pieces. Availability varies, so your suite is assembled from what fits your room and your standards.

  • Primary desk. Rectangular, bow-front or peninsula tops, in laminate, veneer or other finishes.
  • Return or credenza. An L-shaped return keeps a second surface at hand, while a credenza behind the desk adds storage and a place for a monitor or printer.
  • Height-adjustable options. Many offices now use a sit-stand desk as the primary surface. See used adjustable height desks.
  • Storage. Lateral files, pedestals, bookcases, wardrobe towers and hutches.
  • Seating. An executive or task chair plus one or two guest chairs. Browse pre-owned office chairs.
  • Meeting surface. A small round or square table for one-on-one meetings in larger offices.

Choosing a suite by room size

The biggest mistake in private office planning is choosing a desk before measuring the room. Door swing, window placement, outlets and walking clearance all decide what fits. Use this as a starting point, then let a space plan confirm it.

Pricing, delivery and installation

Private office suites vary too much by piece count, finish and grade to publish a single price, so each suite is quoted. The service costs are fixed and simple.

  • Space planning: free.
  • Greater Phoenix delivery: $195 for central zones, $295 for the wider metro.
  • Elsewhere in the country: freight quoted per project.
  • Electrical: not included. Coordinate outlets and any in-desk power with your contractor.

If your project mixes private offices with open-plan workstations, installation for workstations is $95 per workstation with a $495 minimum, and volume pricing applies at 20, 50 and 100 or more stations. A 6'x6' workstation, furniture only, runs $615 liquidation-grade, $1,245 remanufactured and $1,920 new, which gives you a useful benchmark when you budget the whole floor.

Lead times

Timing follows the same tiers as the rest of the pre-owned line. In-stock liquidation-grade pieces can be ready in as little as 72 hours. Remanufactured pieces usually take 7 to 14 days. New furniture takes 4 to 6 weeks. If you are furnishing a new hire's office next week, in-stock pieces are your best bet.

Matching finishes and mixing old with new

Most private offices are not furnished from a blank slate. You may be keeping a desk you like, adding storage to an existing suite or replacing only the guest chairs. That is where pre-owned furniture shines, because you can buy just the pieces you need.

A few guidelines keep a mixed room looking intentional:

  • Match the work surfaces first. The desk, return and credenza sit side by side, so their tops should share a finish or clearly contrast on purpose.
  • Let storage be neutral. Lateral files and pedestals in a neutral metal or laminate finish sit comfortably next to almost any desk.
  • Use seating to tie the room together. Guest chairs in one fabric or frame color make a room of mixed pieces feel like a suite.
  • Send photos and measurements. A photo of the existing pieces and the wall they sit against helps narrow the options quickly.

If you are furnishing a row of identical offices, decide early whether an exact match matters. Being flexible on product line or finish usually opens up more pre-owned options and shorter lead times.

Brands and warranty

Depending on availability, private office pieces may come from Herman Miller, Steelcase, Knoll, Haworth, Humanscale, Teknion, Allsteel, Kimball, AIS or Friant. Office Station is an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer of those brands, and manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned furniture. Judge each piece on its grade and condition.

Private office planning checklist

  • Measure the room, including door swing, window sills and outlet locations.
  • Decide whether the desk should face the door or the window.
  • Count the guest chairs you actually need.
  • List storage needs: files, books, coats, equipment.
  • Choose a grade for visitor-facing pieces and one for back-of-room storage.
  • Decide whether a sit-stand primary desk makes sense.
  • Confirm freight elevator and loading dock access for delivery day.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a private office desk suite?

A suite is usually a primary desk, a return or credenza, and storage such as a lateral file, pedestal or bookcase, often with a guest table or seating. Exact pieces depend on the product line and what is available. Tell Office Station the room size and how the office is used, and the suite can be built around that.

What brands of private office furniture do you carry?

Office Station sells pre-owned furniture from manufacturers such as Herman Miller, Steelcase, Knoll, Haworth, Humanscale, Teknion, Allsteel, Kimball, AIS and Friant, depending on availability. Office Station is an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer, and manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned pieces.

Do you install private office furniture?

Yes. Professional installation is available, and space planning is free. Delivery in Greater Phoenix is $195 for central zones and $295 for the wider metro, and freight elsewhere in the country is quoted per project.

How do I know what condition the furniture is in?

Pre-owned pieces are graded A like new, B very good, or C good. For private offices where visitors sit across the desk, many buyers choose Grade A or remanufactured pieces. Ask about the grade of each item in your quote.

Can I furnish several private offices to match?

Often, yes. Matching several offices is easiest when you are flexible on finish or product line, since pre-owned availability varies. Remanufactured pieces can help create a consistent look across a run of offices.
