Storage and Filing

Used Office Pedestals

The right pedestal is sized to the workstation it serves. Office Station matches pre-owned and remanufactured pedestals to your cubicle build so storage, finish and fit line up.

Pre-owned office workstations

A pedestal looks like a simple box of drawers, but it has a real job in a workstation. It holds each person's files and supplies, it sets how much legroom they have, and in some systems it even supports the work surface. That is why buying used office pedestals goes best when you start from the workstation, not from the pedestal.

Office Station approaches pedestals as part of the build. When you order used cubicles, we plan the storage for each station along with panels and work surfaces, and you can choose between liquidation-grade and remanufactured options.

Three kinds of pedestals

Fixed or hanging pedestals

These attach under the work surface or to a panel, leaving the floor open for cleaning and cable runs. They depend on compatible mounting hardware, so they are best matched to the same workstation line.

Support pedestals

A support pedestal sits on the floor and carries one end of the work surface, replacing a leg or bracket. It must be the right height and depth for the surface it holds up, which makes matching critical.

Freestanding and mobile pedestals

These stand alone under or beside the desk. Mobile versions roll on casters and are the most flexible choice. For a full look at rolling units, carts and caddies, see mobile office storage.

Liquidation-grade vs remanufactured

The same choice you make for workstations applies to the storage inside them. Here is how the options compare, using Office Station's 6 by 6 workstation pricing as a reference point for the overall build.

Build your workstation quote

How to specify pedestals in a quote

A clear request gets you an accurate quote faster. When you reach out, include these details so the storage can be planned station by station.

  • Station count and size. For example, 30 stations at 6 by 6, or a mix of sizes.
  • Pedestal type. Fixed, support, freestanding or mobile, or tell us you are open to suggestions.
  • Drawer configuration. Box over file, two files or another layout, by role if it varies.
  • Grade or path. Liquidation-grade, remanufactured, new or a mix by zone.
  • Locking needs. Whether keyed alike, keyed individually or unimportant.
  • Existing furniture. Any workstations you are keeping that the new pedestals must match.
  • Deadline. Your move-in date, so lead times can steer the options.

If you do not know all of this yet, that is fine. Free space planning is part of a workstation project, and the details get sorted out as the layout comes together.

Pedestal fit and condition checklist

  1. Work surface height. The pedestal must clear the underside of the surface, including any beam or keyboard tray.
  2. Depth. It should sit back from the front edge so knees and chair arms clear it.
  3. Mounting. For fixed or support pedestals, confirm hardware compatibility with the workstation line.
  4. Finish match. Compare paint or laminate color with panels and surfaces for a consistent row.
  5. Drawers and slides. Every drawer should open fully and close flush.
  6. Counterweight and interlock. A loaded file drawer should not tip the unit.
  7. Locks and keys. Ask about key status or replaceable lock cores, especially for large rollouts.

Grades and warranty

Liquidation-grade pedestals carry a condition grade: A is like new, B is very good and C is good. Office Station sells pre-owned furniture from brands such as Herman Miller, Steelcase, Knoll, Haworth, Teknion and Allsteel as an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer. Manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned pieces.

Frequently asked questions

What is an office pedestal?

A pedestal is a compact drawer unit that lives under or beside a work surface. It usually combines a shallow box drawer for supplies with a deeper file drawer. Pedestals can be fixed to the workstation, freestanding or mobile on casters.

Should I choose a liquidation-grade or remanufactured pedestal?

Liquidation-grade pieces are sold as they come out of a corporate space, graded A, B or C, and are the fastest and lowest-cost option. Remanufactured pieces are refurbished for a more consistent look across a build and usually take 7 to 14 days. Many buyers use remanufactured pedestals where visitors see them and liquidation-grade in back-office areas.

Are pedestals included in the workstation prices?

The published 6 by 6 workstation prices of $615 liquidation-grade, $1,245 remanufactured and $1,920 new are for the workstation furniture only. Ask for pedestals as part of your quote so storage is specified for each station. Prices exclude electrical, delivery and professional installation.

Will a pedestal from one brand fit a workstation from another?

Freestanding and mobile pedestals generally work with any work surface that has enough clearance. Fixed and support pedestals often rely on brand-specific mounting, so mixing brands can cause fit problems. We match pedestals to the workstation line in your build when possible.

Can I get volume pricing on pedestals?

Volume pricing applies to workstation orders: 5 percent at 20 or more stations, 8 percent at 50 or more and 12 percent at 100 or more. Pedestals specified as part of those workstations are planned together in the same quote.
