A reception area does a lot of work in a small footprint. It has to welcome guests, give your front desk staff a functional station, handle packages and paperwork, and quietly signal that your business has its act together. Used reception furniture lets you get all of that right without waiting weeks or spending new-furniture money on a room people pass through in minutes.
Office Station sells pre-owned reception desks, lobby seating and supporting pieces recovered from corporate office liquidations. Every item is graded A, B or C, many pieces are in stock, and space planning is free.
What goes into a reception area
Most front offices are built from a handful of pieces. Planning around these categories keeps you from forgetting something until move-in day.
- Reception desk or station. The anchor piece. Look for a transaction counter at standing height for guests and a work surface at seated height for staff.
- Guest seating. Lounge chairs, side chairs, benches or modular seating. See our dedicated used reception chairs page for lobby seating options.
- Tables. Coffee and end tables give guests a place for a cup, a phone or a clipboard.
- Staff seating. A good task chair for whoever sits at the desk all day. Browse pre-owned office chairs.
- Storage. Pedestals, lateral files or cabinets behind or beside the desk to keep the counter clear.
Inventory includes pieces from brands such as Herman Miller, Steelcase, Knoll, Haworth, Teknion, Allsteel, Kimball, AIS and Friant, depending on what current projects produce.
Condition grades and lead times
Reception furniture is visible, so grade matters more here than in a back office. The table below pairs our grades with typical lead times by furniture type.
| Option | Condition | Typical lead time | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grade A pre-owned | Like new, minimal visible wear | As little as 72 hours when in stock | Reception desk and primary lobby seating |
| Grade B pre-owned | Very good, light normal wear | As little as 72 hours when in stock | Staff-side storage, secondary seating |
| Grade C pre-owned | Good, visible cosmetic wear | As little as 72 hours when in stock | Back-of-desk storage, employee entrances |
| Remanufactured | Refurbished to a refreshed finish | Usually 7 to 14 days | When you want a specific finish on a budget |
| New | New | 4 to 6 weeks | Exact specs with no flexibility |
A common approach is to put Grade A on the desk and the chairs guests actually sit in, then save with Grade B or C on storage that sits behind the counter.

Free space planning for your front office
Reception layouts go wrong in predictable ways: a desk that blocks the door swing, seating that faces the restroom hallway, or a counter too deep for guests to hand over a form. Free space planning helps you avoid those mistakes before anything is delivered.
When we plan a reception area, we look at:
- Sightlines. Staff should see the entry door, and guests should see the desk the moment they walk in.
- Circulation. Clear paths from the entry to the desk, from the desk to the offices, and around seating.
- Accessibility. A lower counter section and clear floor space help guests who use a wheelchair.
- Privacy. Screen monitors and paperwork from waiting guests.
- Power and data. Desk position has to line up with outlets and data drops. Note that our furniture pricing excludes electrical work.
- Seating count. Plan for your busiest hour, not your average one.
What affects the cost
Reception furniture pricing varies by piece, brand, size and grade, so we quote each order based on current inventory. These are the costs to plan for beyond the furniture itself:
- Delivery. $195 in central Greater Phoenix, $295 across the metro. Freight elsewhere is quoted per project.
- Installation. Some reception desks are modular and require assembly. We will quote installation with your order.
- Electrical. Any hardwiring, power poles or new outlets are handled separately from furniture pricing.
If you are furnishing the whole office at the same time, bundling reception with workstations keeps delivery simple. For reference, a 6'x6' workstation runs $615 in liquidation grade, $1,245 remanufactured and $1,920 new, furniture only, with installation at $95 per workstation and a $495 minimum. You can price workstations in our cubicle quote builder.
Moving or closing an office?
If you are relocating, your current reception furniture may be worth moving or may be worth more sold. Our corporate relocation service can help you decide. If you are closing an office, our liquidation service provides a written net offer: resale value minus removal cost, and a positive number means you are paid.

Frequently asked questions
What does used reception furniture include?
It typically covers reception desks and stations, lobby and guest seating, side and coffee tables, and supporting storage behind the desk. Availability depends on current inventory from office liquidation projects. Tell us what you need and we will share what is in stock.
How fast can I get a pre-owned reception desk?
In-stock liquidation-grade items can be ready in as little as 72 hours. Remanufactured items usually take 7 to 14 days. New furniture typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.
Do you help plan the reception layout?
Yes. Space planning is free. We look at your entry, circulation paths and how visitors check in, then suggest a desk position and seating layout that fits the room.
Does a manufacturer warranty come with used reception furniture?
Manufacturer warranties generally do not transfer to pre-owned furniture. Office Station is an independent reseller, not an authorized dealer for any brand. Every item carries an A, B or C condition grade so you know what to expect.
What does delivery cost?
