Price your workstations

Install it yourself or hire the crew?

Self-installation saves the $95 per station, and for a handful of freestanding desks it can make sense. Panel-based workstations are a different job. Before you decide, weigh these points:

• Parts count. Panels, connectors, worksurface supports and storage all have to go together in the right order.
• Leveling. A long run of panels needs to be level and plumb, or worksurfaces and doors will not line up.
• Time off the floor. Every hour your staff spends assembling is an hour not spent on the business.
• Rework. Fixing a mistake in a connected run often means taking apart several stations.
• Electrical coordination. Powered panels need to be positioned correctly before an electrician can connect them.

What to confirm before you sign

1. Station count matches the plan. Use the free space plan, not a rough headcount.
2. Grade per item. Pre-owned pieces are graded A like new, B very good or C good.
3. What a station includes. Check for pedestals, overheads and keyboard trays.
4. Delivery zone. Make sure the quote shows $195 or $295 for your address.
5. Site access. Tell the crew about suite numbers, gate codes, stairs and parking before delivery day.
6. Electrical timing. Book your electrician for after installation.

Match the tier to your schedule

Price is only half the decision. Lead time often settles it. In-stock liquidation-grade workstations can be ready in as little as 72 hours, which suits an office that signed a lease late or needs to seat a new team quickly. Remanufactured stations usually take 7 to 14 days, so they fit a move that is a few weeks out. New stations take 4 to 6 weeks and belong on a longer build-out schedule.

If your date is fixed, choose the tier first and then refine grades and quantities. Trying to force a new-furniture order into a two-week window usually ends with a rushed compromise.

Brands and warranty on pre-owned pieces
